This basement renovation is located in bells corners, Ottawa Ontario. The first task at hand was to widen the main door opening and a new wall was built and an existing storage area was removed to enlarge the space.
All exterior walls were removed and new insulation was added. Insulated dri-core underlay was installed below the new carpet for added warmth and comfort. The existing electrical was removed and reinstalled to code including new LED pot lights with dimmers.
The dart board received its own “gimble” (directional) pot light installed on its own switch. When the suspended ceiling was removed for the new drywalled ceiling the exiting steel “I” beam was exposed. The exposed “I” beam was boxed in with stained rough sawn pine for a rustic feel.
The Bar shelf was built for the dart board area and was built with rough sawn pine and stained to match the beam. The staircase was painted and risers were installed closing in the back of the stairs.
This type of renovation creates an environment that is comfortable and warm eliminating the typical damp feeling associated with basements basically creating an extension of usable living space.
