Considerations
There are some areas of a basement renovation that should be addressed at the time of the renovation and others can be updated later. Some key points to note are the quality level of underlay and noise reduction. Getting the right underlay can make a big difference in moisture, warmth and comfort. You can go with a simple thin underlay for your laminate or put down insulated raised underlay that offers moisture barrier qualities to ensure a dry living area as well as true hardwood finishing. For noise reduction it is important to add the desired noise reduction properties before you finish the walls. You can use, resilient channel, layered drywall, insulation and even a fire code 5/8” drywall will surprisingly reduce the amount of noise transferred from room to room or from basement to adjoining levels. Plumbing and electrical put in place for future renovations are also very important.
